About a 50

As Nikko cleaned up his putt on 18 I asked him what he shot on Gold. He said, "Probably a 50. I wasn't keeping score and I left a lot of strokes out there."

Then he proceeded to casually drain three 40 footers. Lordy.

"It was fun wacking with you"

Tim Carter has been weedwacking like crazy today on holes 1, 2, and 16 and has the wack on him to prove it.

Nikko is in the house

Number 2 ranked Nikko Locastro just arrived for a practice round with his sponsors Kevin and Jeff from Prodiscgolf.com.

Mellow Monday

Appropriately, Team Vibram member Dana Vicich was the first top pro to arrive today. Others are rumored to start rolling in tonight and tomorrow for league at 5:15.

Sponsor Brian Kozicki from Buried Under Comics just dropped off three large boxes of comic books that he is donating to each players pack. Nice!

There are about 7-8 cars in the lot on this hot Monday afternoon. In the shop, the iPod shuffle is stuck on Elvis and U2. Interesting.

Sunday busy Sunday

Man has it been a busy day today. On the workfront, Joe Yaskis and Bobby D weedwacked hole 17 while I hit the parking lot and around the barns. Misty and Mike Sperow planted new flowers and shrubs.

Tom built a net target for driving warm-ups and the nightime Flashflight accuracy contest, and we all helped put up a big tent.

After

As far as players go, we had over 50 today. Many were getting their pre-VO practice rounds in, but several were here for the first time.

The Sap Shot was popular, as was the new ice cream freezer.

Local Pro Chris Max Voigt also stopped in for a round. In 2001 he set an official world distance record of 712 feet with a Discraft XS. He took a few runs at the Sap Bucket today but no luck! Too close I guess.

With free play for all VO players starting tomorrow it is only going to get busier!

Tom's Net

A huge spider was waiting for us in the tent. It didn't freak me out at all. Yeah right!

Want to caddie for the #1 golfer in the world?

David Feldberg is offering a local player (young or old) the chance to caddy for him during the tournament. If you'd like to get an up-close and personal experience of a lifetime, email him now. You never know, it may help your game just by carrying his bag for a few rounds!

He is also looking for a ride from Boston's Logan Airport to Worcester on Wednesday morning. Can anyone hook David up?

David is currently the number one ranked PDGA golfer in the world with a 1043 rating. He has won 10 events this year including the Memorial, Carolina Clash, Minnesota Majestic, and most recently the Scandinavian Open and the Worlds Mixed Doubles title.

Good morning, Worcester!

Just listened to TD Steve's interview on the local AM radio station. Although Steve sounded good and presented disc golf in a positive light, the DJs seemed more interested in perpetuating the pot-smoking, beer-drinking stereotypes of the game. They even threw in some crap about getting girls in bikinis on the course to get more media exposure. Sheesh.

Oh well, any publicity is good publicity I suppose. Rumor is that NPR's Only a Game is next on this press junket.

Housing and rides needed for traveling Vibram Open golfers

The Vibram Open (Aug 13-15) is just around the corner and NEFA is continuing its tradition of offering traveling golfers a free place to crash. But first, we need some empty beds!

Any and all offers are much appreciated, so if you have an extra couch, bed, or even camping space in the backyard, please contact Marcy Borelli (email, 978-496-5753) who is coordinating this.

If you need a place to stay
  • Contact Marcy who will try to match you up with a friendly local.

If you are a friendly local with extra space
  • Contact Marcy and let her know where you live, what you can offer, and how many golfers you can accomodate.

New Sap House opens at MH

Have you seen the new Sap House gift shop at Maple Hill, right next to hole 18?

There are lots of discs and bags inside, as well as a members-only area upstairs.

The deck is going to make a great spot to watch the Vibram Open next month.

Gone fishing

Here are just a few of the discs that were pulled out of the hole 8 pond at Maple Hill this week.

Everything has been logged, so stop by and see if your disc made it back to land.

More top Pros coming to MA in 2010

Have you checked out the registration list for this year's Vibram Open? As of today, there are several 1000+ rated players making their first trip to MA to join returning golfers David Feldberg, Sarah Stanhope, and Val Jenkins.

Maybe you've heard of Nate Doss and Josh Anthon, perhaps? Awesome news!

You can still get into the VO

If you didn't get in to the Vibram Open the traditional way by signing up on Jan. 1, then you still have a chance -- just win one of the several VO qualifying events. See, isn't that easy?
Head to a red dot and win!

NT Rules exam

Starting in 2010 if you want to compete in a National Tour event like the Vibram Open you will have to demonstrate your knowledge of the Rules of Play as well. At this year's Fall Summit, the Board of Directors voted that all NT participants will be required to pass a Rules Proficiency Exam before being allowed to tee off. Go to PDGA for more info.
